I remember being a teenager and wondering 'What is the point of this?' when I was at school.
I'm a teacher now and I'm still wondering.
Are you wondering too?
How/when am I going to actually use this in my real life?
Don't get me wrong... I actually love algebra.
And it's good mental gymnastics for the brain.
But I've never used it. And Google can actually do it for you now. #future
Fast forward 20 (okay 30) years... I have had some pretty crappy relationships (they call them toxic these days) and have to 'relate' to people 24/7...you know - family, friends, colleagues, people in shops..like every day I am interacting with humans!
Crazy right?!
I've had to learn how to look after my physical health and I am constantly working on improving my emotional and mental wellbeing.
As well developing my confidence, self-belief, esteem and learning to love and accept myself (it's an every day thing!)
These are the day-to-day things we all need to know and think (or feel) about to thrive.
Yet this isn't the main focus of our school curriculum. Hmmmmm....
The aim of the School Of Stuff That Matters is to give young people the
knowledge and skills that allow them to make POWERFUL CHOICES...
so they can be happy and healthy in themselves, their relationships and their lives.
We do this by providing engaging online courses
that young people can interact with in their own time and at their own pace.
I have worked with teens to design and craft the content and activities
so there are no assessments, hour long lectures or boring assignments!
Just bite sized videos & practical tools for self-reflection and growth.
The most important part of our work is providing teens with in-depth ACTION sheets
designed to apply the learning to themselves and their own unique situation.
Everyone is different and there is no one-size-fits-all solution.
It's all about getting to know yourself.
